Westland

This area was originally occupied by Native Americans before the first Europeans arrived around 1824. Until 1829 this area was a part of Bucklin Township.  At that time the township was divided and what would become Westland was Lima and then renamed Nankin Township. In order to stop Livonia from annexing a portion of the township, on May 16, 1966, Nankin Township became the city of Westland.
