Detroit
| Detroit was the home of Native Americans for 11,000 years before the first French in the 1630's. The city was founded by Antoine Cadillac who constructed a fort here in 1701. The name comes from the French word for "strait". From 1805 to 1847 Detorit was the capital of Michigan Territory and during the early years of statehood. It was officially incorporated as a city in 1815. |
